I agree 100% with Daniel. I'm trying to make the final switch from CVS to
Subversion, but this issue is preventing me from doing so. To be a "compelling
replacement for CVS" with "most current CVS features"
(http://subversion.tigris.org/), I believe this is a must. Http(s) could be
made to work, but it requires additional server configurations and user
accounts, when valid SSH accounts already exist and are used for CVS.

TMate's JavaSVN is a promising start; however, I think that subclipse should be
able to handle this natively – and I think it’d be appealing to the prospective
user base. Additionally, I’ve been unable to get Subclipse+JavaSVN to work
through an HTTP proxy, which is easily doable with Eclipse’s CVS client.

(I found an ugly workaround – a HTTP-proxied SSH connection, w/ a SSH tunnel
setup to port-forward the server’s SSH port, then a JavaSVN svn+ssh connection
to the local forwarded-port. There is LOT of overhead involved here, however…)

As Daniel stated, I think we should be able to re-use Eclipse CVS’s SSH
functionality, maybe even just creating a 2nd instance of the property pages
and all. Eclipse must pipe CVS through the created SSH connection, and I doubt
the two are tightly coupled – can’t we do the same here?

I’d enjoy contributing towards this fix, but I’ve not done anything with the
subclipse source yet, and would need some assistance.
