Found out what the issue was. The subclipse plugin and associated workspace had
previously been installed with an older version of Eclipse.

Some of the plugin components seemed to be pre installed under the old eclipse
and did not get correctly re-installed with the latest JUNO version. removing
the whole of .eclipse and re-installing all plug ins fixed this

Subclipse has almost zero involvement in the installation process. Eclipse build process takes our
features and plugins and packages those up into JARS and writes out the p2 metadata that the Eclipse
installer uses to do the install. We then just upload those files to an accessible HTTP server. All of the
actual installation logic is performed by Eclipse.

Other than some attribute in our feature.xml that might impact the p2 metadata that Eclipse generates
there is really nothing we can do to influence this. Our XML files are fairly vanilla. I do not believe we
could be doing anything that would cause Eclipse to not work. In short, I think this has to be an Eclipse
bug.

I am seeing this issue for a JUNO(3.7) build that is installed by an administrator
to a box for which I don't have write access to the plugin's directory. Subclipse
is installed under ~/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.7.0_*/plugins

Eclipse Marketplace shows the plugin's as installed, but cannot see any related
perspectives or views.

I can confirm this as follows:

Running Ubuntu 9.10 I installed Eclipse 3.5 and proceeded to install subclipse
and m2eclipse plugins. Both register as installed when checking what is
installed under Help->Install new software. But neither show up as icons under
Help->About Eclipse, nor can I access their views. If I go to Window->Show
View->Other; SVN and Maven simply do not show up in the list.

I started searching the web for solutions and stumbled upon this bug. I changed
the ownership of the install directory and reinstalled both plugins and then
they worked.

I mention m2eclipse simply because, since both where affected, this could
indicate a general problem with Eclipse rather than with any specific plugin.

When the user installing the subclipse plugin has no write access to the
installation directory of eclipse (e.g. opt eclipse), subclipse will be
installed under the users home directory:
~/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3*/plugins/.
After this kind of installation, the SVN Repository perspective is not accessible.

I must admit that it is only highly likely, that the failure was caused as
described. It should be verified or falsified by someone.
